 Jai alai and Animal Racing

Games of jai alai and pari-mutuel betting are played in Fort Pierce, Florida. Wagers are made on thoroughbred racing, harness racing, dog racing, and jai alai, which is a sport of Basque origins introduced to Florida as a professional sport in 1926. Originally a form of handball, jai alai has players in a 3-walled arena scoring points when opponents are unable to return the ball (or "pelota"). The company pursues other gambling ventures including the acquisition of additional pari-mutuel betting facilities and the addition of "poker rooms" made legal by a 1996 Florida law change.
